Hello, I’m Aum Nicol

My name is Aum (pronounced Ohm) Nicol.  We moved just over a year ago from Grande Prairie, AB to this beautiful Creston Valley.  I was born in Trinidad, WI and came to Canada when my parents were invited by the government to teach (as were many from other Commonwealth countries) in the northern areas of our country.

 

I started painting when I was 14 years old teaching myself oils and taking evening courses up until I was an adult. However, after having my children, I switched to watercolours and acrylic.  I have written 2 books, a picture book that I took off the market to re-do the pictures and a young adult novel called Lights Around Her-The Girl Who Sees Angels on Amazon. 

 

My biggest artistic achievement was when I produced the Grande Prairie Children’s Festival which was like a conference of the arts for students from Kindergarten to Grade Six.  Over two days we had about 4000 children attending sessions like dance, pottery, drama, music, clown acts, painting, and so much more.  It was the biggest thing I’ve ever done and am ever so grateful for the wonderful volunteers in Grande Prairie, over 40 performers, a wonderful team to work with, and the City of Grande Prairie.
