Hello, I’m Johanna

We, Dayle (my husband) me and our son Kevin, landed in Creston after throwing a dart at the map, albeit was an educated one. Our daughter and family live in Edmonton area. We have now been here for almost 23 years and still feel like we dropped into paradise.

My Story

We live in Wynndel, where we immediately got involved with the community. I got involved with the Community hall and Dayle as a paid on call firefighter. I soon changed direction and became involved with the fire department too. It was a rewarding and busy time for both of us, as we moved through the ranks of 2 departments (Wynndel and Creston). Both of us working full time, training 2 nights a week for many years, as well as going on calls, took up much of our time. It was with great thought and deliberation that we decided to retire in 2019, not only from the departments, but also from working life.

This freed up the time for us to do some of the things that we have always wanted to do, but did not have the time. We love to travel and have found a new hobby of rockhounding, which we do together. We spend many hours planning our getaways, which include visiting our family and places on our bucket list. Each one always includes a day of adventure looking for fossils, petrified wood, or gems of all kinds.

I have always been a crafty person, but never thought of myself as a painter, although it has always been in the back of my thoughts. So I decided to give it a try. In for a penny, in for a pound, I joined ArtSpace. It sure has expanded my horizons! My first oil project was a 4’ x 4’ flower! Wow, what an experience! I have found that everyone is so helpful and friendly, that the painting just happens. At home, I have been painting with acrylics, working with Paverpol (a fabric stiffener type medium) and playing in the backyard. We are on Year 15 of a 5 year project, which includes a waterfall, creek (complete with bridges) and a koi pond that holds about 15,000 gallons of water…..go big or go home!
